The explorer’s went the extra mile and made weekly deliveries to the Food Bank with their donations. Their generosity helped the Food Bank provide holiday meals to many Orange County families this season.

Why Nominated: Nancy has been a member of the Amigos de la Colina since 2009.  As an Amigo, Nancy jumped right in to an active role leading school programs, tours and helping with Special events.  This year Nancy has bravely taken on the scheduling of docents for hands-on school tours and for scout programs at Heritage Hill Historical Park.  She is always willing to jump in and expertly lead programs when the need arises.

Congrats to Janet Whitcomb for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Why Nominated: Janet is an active docent at the Helena Modjeska Historic House & Gardens.  She has extensive knowledge of Modjeska and local history which she weaves together to create informative and entertaining tours for the public.  Janet also serves on the Modjeska garden committee where she assists in pruning, weeding, trimming and planting.  Janet is a remarkable local historian, and has researched many of the prominent families in old El Toro and surrounds.  She shares her passion for the past in her weekly articles in the Lake Forest Patch.

Why Nominated: Helen has been an active member of the Helena Modjeska Foundation and volunteer at Arden  since the 1990s.  Helen has shared her creativity and ingenuity to come up with new ways to promote the park and to build support for the Foundation.  This year, Helen organized a successful volunteer recruitment event and is coordinating a Canyon Garden Tour which features the Modjeska gardens. Helen is currently serving as treasurer of the Foundation.

Why Nominated: Carolyn has been an important part of the Amigos de la Colina since 1998. Not only is Carolyn a knowledgeable docent and historian, but she has also taken on primary responsibility for the extensive textile collection at Heritage Hill Historical Park.  Carolyn spends numerous hours both at the park caring for and exhibiting the collection but also at home making needed repairs and using her magic to make everything look its best.  Carolyn is dedicated to learning current techniques and best practices for the care of the collections at Heritage Hill.

Why Nominated: Adele has been a member of the Amigos de la Colina since 1983.  She has a vast knowledge of El Toro and Orange County History and a remarkable desire to learn more.  Her many years of research and inquiry make her the go to person when questions arise about the history of Old El Toro and the stories behind the buildings at Heritage Hill Historical Park.  Adele has led uncountable tours and helped with special events over her many years as an Amigo.   Adele currently serves as the Amigos de la Colina Historian.
