Congrats to Patsy Bates for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Susan G. Komen for the Cure Orange County Affiliate
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: Patsy Bates is a breast cancer survivor and has been a volunteer for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Orange County Affiliate for less than a year. During that time, she has demonstrated her passion, her heart, and her willingness to work for the Komen’s mission. She is not afraid to be the face of a survivor, in particular, the face of an African American survivor.
As a member of the Speaker’s Bureau, Patsy has been instrumental in our African American Initiative in Orange County. She has shared her survivorship story with African American churches and sorority groups as well as represented Komen at health fairs and community events.
Patsy also donated the pink suitcases that volunteers fill with Komen information and give- aways to take to various events.
As a member of the Survivor Event Planning Committee, she graciously donated all of the clothing that the survivors modeled during our Fashion show. She hosted meetings at her house and gave the Fashion Show her passion and support.
