Honoree 2013 – John Mooney

Congrats to John Mooney for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Mooney_JohnName:  John Mooney

Nominating Organization:  Irvine Ranch Conservancy

Honoree Category:  Animals & Environment

Why Nominated:  John Mooney regularly goes above and beyond the Trail Boss call of duty.  When asked to adopt a trail, John adopted three. He consistently offers to lead our most challenging projects.  John has taken the initiative to plan and lead work days for which he enlists the help of his family, friends and students, thus introducing new people to trail work and to the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks.  He has not shied away from even the burliest, pointiest of projects.  He has chiseled away at rock-hard dirt in the summer to improve trail drainage (the burliest of projects) and he has bravely led mass cactus plantings (the pointiest of projects).  John also works closely with Science & Stewardship to control invasive species. His enthusiasm and leadership are rare gifts, and we are grateful that he shares them with IRC and the community.

Please write a note of congratulations below!
