Why Nominated: A volunteer through the American Red Cross for over 35 years, Heidi Shayla Rosofsky has fulfilled many roles in Disaster and Emergency Services and Preparedness, then, in turn, has used her experiences to enrich her ability to contribute further to our community. In 2012, Ms. Rosofsky focused on engaging with and contributing her expert knowledge on disaster/emergency preparedness for people with disabilities, access and functional needs (DAFN) to community partners for planning and public education. She taught at workshops sponsored by the OC Sheriff’s Emergency Management, OC Health Care Agency, NAMI, the Dayle McIntosh Center and the American Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Academy. She was on the team that created the 2012 DAFN guide for the 2012 Great ShakeOut website. She continues to represent the Red Cross on the OCSD EMB Working Group and Public Education committee to incorporate planning for people with DAFN into the County’s Emergency Plan. Over the past 18 months, she has assisted CalEMA in revising the content of its CSTI IAFN training workshop. As the Emeritus Function Lead for Preparedness, Heidi not only gives specialized preparedness presentations to the community, she mentors new volunteer presenters, exhorting them to accuracy and excellence. She is well known for sharing her forthright opinion, to our benefit. Heidi Shayla Rosofsky is the embodiment of the Spirit of Volunteerism.
