Nominating Organization: Habitat for Humanity of Orange County
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: The Geezer Gang of Habitat for Humanity of Orange County truly are the backbone of our construction team. This self named group of individuals, they used to meet for lunch at Geezer’s Garlic Grill in Costa Mesa, work out on our build sites Tuesdays through Fridays.
While you do not have to be of a certain age to be a member of the Geezer Gang, most of the members are retired. They bring with them experiences from a variety of vocations: Engineers, Bankers, Architects, Contractors, Pharmaceutical Sales, Medical Professions and yes we even have a Rocket Scientist.
The Geezer Gang members work with the Construction Staff to teach our casual volunteers the skills needed to build a house. Some of them did not come to us with these skills but over time have learned and mastered framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and irrigation installation. They are also of great benefit to the staff in making minor adjustments needed after a large group of volunteers have been out on the build site. They are our unofficial “clean-up crew”.
All of the staff at Habitat for Humanity of Orange County are truly grateful for the hours and dedication that our Geezer Gang members give each month. We could not keep to our construction schedule or build as many houses without them.
Please write a note of congratulations below!
