Congrats to Erlinda Laolagi for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: UnitedHealthcare
Honoree Category: Health
Why Nominated: Jeffrey Mason, M.D., senior medical market director, UnitedHealthcare of California, had so much confidence in Erlinda Laolagi, a 17-year UnitedHealthcare employee, that he personally asked her to walk in the Orange County March of Dimes 5K, and then immediately promoted her to be the captain of the entire UnitedHealthcare March of Dimes walking team. He knew she would be the perfect one for the challenge because she had the leadership qualities it takes to get the job done. The UnitedHealthcare executive knew she would take charge and encourage her co-workers to participate. He knew she had the ability to coordinate volunteers, see the assignments were successfully carried out and had the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations, like rain during a fund-raising walk.
You see, Erlinda is passionate about volunteering. She is always stepping up to help the community where she lives and works, whether it’s at a local rescue mission, or bringing her expertise as a registered nurse to community health fairs administering flu shots or answering health questions. Erlinda has also brought community support opportunities to her employer, UnitedHealthcare. For example, Erlinda was instrumental in bringing the opportunity to UnitedHealthcare to support the Cypress Festival, which is the largest one-day free event of its kind in Orange County, drawing up to 30,000 visitors. Erlinda coordinates the UnitedHealthcare booth and recruits volunteers. “I am passionate about volunteering and being involved in community activities,” said Erlinda, who volunteers about 60 hours a year. “I’ve learned you have to be passionate and knowledgeable about a cause and its purpose to get people to join with you.” “UnitedHealthcare appreciates Erlinda’s long record of local community and civic service,” Mason said. “She is unique in her ability to recruit the large number of volunteers needed to help the causes we support. She does a great job and does it with great enthusiasm.” Erlinda’s efforts to encourage UnitedHealthcare, whose California headquarters is located in Cypress, to participate in the Cypress Festival has enriched UnitedHealthcare’ local community involvement. Erlinda is an exceptional employee who graciously gives her time and talent to improve the overall health and well-being of the people in the local community. She is a shining example of UnitedHealthcare’s mission to help people live healthier lives and the Spirit of Volunteerism. Her work is greatly appreciated.
