Why Nominated:  Google “Fire Watch” on the internet and you’ll probably find a picture or video clip of Joan Steiner. Joan brings a great level of enthusiasm and dedication to the Fire Watch Program.  Always ready to deploy, Joan’s passion to protect the wild lands is evident every time you talk to her; making her a terrific spokesperson for news crews and reporters.  Joan is also one of the most active docents in the Public Programs department, leading and assisting with many different recreational hikes and trail boss activities. Her specialty is distance hiking, with many of her programs cover well over 15 miles. The participants on these outings get to experience places on the land that most people never see.  Joan is always eager to share the unique and special attributes that are found along the way. She is a true ambassador for the Conservancy, the landowners of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks, and the many wonderful places that are found there.
