Congrats to Mark Guillod for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: AIDS Services Foundation Orange County
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: Mark Guillod started volunteering with AIDS Services Foundation Orange County in the mid-1980s by doing registration with his friends Dick Anderson and Alex Wentzel at AIDS Walk Orange County. Always respecting Alex’s community involvement and mild activism and having lost several close friends to the disease including a previous life partner, Mark decided to answer Alex’s call for help. He also volunteered with putting together holiday baskets for HIV+ clients in the early 1990s. In late 2000, Alex called and asked Mark if he would consider being on the Board and assume the position of Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. Mark was very humbled to be considered for a role in supporting the OC community in this way and agreed to consider his request. After talking with Judy Rosenthal who had been treasurer for many years, Board President Al Roberts and several others about the position, he agreed to take on those roles and was voted in as a new member of the Board in early 2001. Mark served in those positions as well as on the HR committee until 2012 when he stepped down as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. True to form, Mark recently volunteered to be reelected as Board Treasurer when he was called upon to help again.
