Congrats to Suzanne Thompson for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: UnitedHealthcare
Honoree Category: Health
Why Nominated: Suzanne Thompson is a team leader, work place collaborator and community builder. Qualities, she believes, inspire her to motivate and encourage her co-workers at UnitedHealthcare to give back. Together, they support worthwhile Orange County nonprofits such as the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. A joy she has happily undertaken at UnitedHealthcare for the past six years. “It’s the right thing to do. If it’s something I believe in, like supporting grassroots fund-raising efforts, then it’s very easy for me to do,” Suzanne said. “I speak up and take the initiative to motivate my co-workers, share with them the challenge and convince them to join me, and UnitedHealthcare, in supporting worthwhile causes.”
Suzanne has been a catalyst for recruiting volunteers, organizing and assigning helpers to set up at the events and then walk to raise money. She demonstrates excellent organizational skills and motivates people to volunteer and financially support worthy nonprofits. Each year she personally logs more than 100 hours of volunteer work to support her local community. “These events become a great way to collaborate,” Suzanne said. “But there is another added benefit, by volunteering together, we all feel happier and healthier.”
“Suzanne is a real go-getter,” said Alex Uhm, chief operating officer, for UnitedHealthcare of California, and 2014 Co-Chair of the UnitedHealthcare of California Social Responsibility Committee. “She takes the initiative and isn’t shy about asking for support. She has made a name for herself at UnitedHealthcare for recruiting volunteers to support local causes.” Suzanne’s zest for volunteering makes giving back possible for those who may not know how to get involved. Suzanne is an exceptional employee who graciously gives her time and talent to improve the overall health and well-being of the people in the local community. She is a shining example of UnitedHealthcare’s mission to help people live healthier lives and the Spirit of Volunteerism. Her work is greatly appreciated.
