Why Nominated: Virginia Thomas has volunteered with the Placentia Police Department for 30 years! She is a remarkable woman and has volunteered her way through the different bureaus of the Police Department, happily sharing her talents. Prior to volunteering at the Placentia Police Department she was a certified court translator for 28 years. She started off her volunteer career at Placentia teaching Spanish for Law Enforcement Officers and she developed her own curriculum. Her Spanish translation skills have benefitted the department in numerous ways including assisting with victims, suspect interviews, fliers, 911 calls, and even door to door assistance to help find witnesses to violent crimes.
Virginia has not limited her volunteer work to just Spanish translation she has also aided with numerous special events, the front counter of the Police Station, library patrols, imputing data for inactive cases, and currently she is giving a helping hand to the Property Bureau. Serving under eight different Police Chiefs and numerous volunteer coordinators Virginia has outlasted her superiors. The most valuable part of Virginia is her determination to make a difference to the community she lives and serves.
