Congrats to Kim Myers for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Ocean Institute
Honoree Category: Education
Why Nominated: Kim Myers has been a Maritime volunteer at the Ocean Institute for over 10 years. During that time he has worked on every facet of our tall ship’s maintenance. He is an electrician, a carpenter, and a welder as well as an accomplished artist who does wood carving, painting and scrimshawing. Kim volunteers most every weekday as well as Saturdays to complete projects, with 1,342 hours of volunteer time in 2013. His tireless efforts working on our new maritime wharf on the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center helped made this new facility a reality. From designing equipment, finding companies to donate iron work, and organizing the volunteer team to accomplish the tasks needed, he has been essential to completing the new wharf. There doesn’t seem to be any project that Kim can’t find a way to accomplish, and accomplish with a level of enthusiasm that is boundless. You will never find Kim complaining that a job is too complicated, menial, or boring. He just goes at it with a positive spirit that is a joy to be around!
