Congrats to Fernando Negrete for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Negrete_FernandoName:  Fernando Negrete

Nominating Organization:  The Eli Home Inc.

Honoree Category:  Human & Community

Why Nominated:  Fernando Negrete is the kind of volunteer that any organization dreams of having.  He is loyal, committed, dedicated, compassionate, generous, and passionately believes in the mission of The Eli Home for Abused Children.Fernando became involved with The Eli Home 22 years ago as a firefighter for the Anaheim Fire Department, when Eli was building its first shelter home in Anaheim Hills.  Firefighters helped with drywall, and building the fence and playground.  From that point forward Fernando came to our rescue whenever we needed help with fundraising, house repairs or community events.  He would especially be generous at Christmas by adopting a family and giving them gifts of toys and food.

When Fernando retired from the fire department in 2007, he became even more involved because he said, “People should not retire’ from’ something.  They should retire ‘to’ something.   I don’t think I’m retiring from the fire department.  I believe I’m retiring to The Eli Home.”  In 2010, he became the President of the Board of Directors of The Eli Home, Inc.  Fernando is married and he has no children of his own, so the children of the Eli Home have become his.  He believes God has blessed him more than he could ever imagine, and we, at The Eli Home, believe that God brought the perfect person with the perfect heart to bless us all.
