Congrats to Adelle Yeaton for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Habitat for Humanity of Orange County
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: Adelle Yeaton has been an active contributor and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County for over 25 years.
In 2010, she joined 500 people from around the world and traveled with a team from Orange County to build homes in Nepal – on the side of a mountain!
She was hooked! Upon her return, she went through the training to become a team leader. In that capacity she has lead teams to Cambodia, Mongolia and to Nicaragua – 4 times. Her enthusiasm and energy are an inspiration to us all.
Coordinating the details of getting people to these far-off lands takes hours to bring together. Not only is there recruiting to be done, there is the training for the teams as they prepare for the trips, making sure all travel arrangements have been made, working with the receiving country and making sure that everyone has a positive, safe and rewarding experience.
Whether we are building with bamboo, Styrofoam/cement blocks, sun-dried bricks or cinder block, Adelle is always ready to learn a new skill and then make sure others are successful at the task they have been assigned.
In addition to building around the world, Adelle has brought that enthusiasm back to Orange County. As a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church, she has inspired that congregation to become active participants in the Habitat for Humanity of Orange County efforts. She coordinates information nights and build days to encourage engagement at the local level.
Adelle is also an active ambassador for Habitat OC, encouraging others to be involved in the work of building affordable housing here and around the world.
We thank Adelle for her continued support of Habitat for Humanity of Orange County and our mission!
