Congrats to Alex Loop for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: Alex has served as a volunteer intern in the Volunteer Department since 201, and has logged over 1,100 hours of volunteer service. Alex is extremely consistent, serving three days a week in the Volunteer Department helping with data entry, our children’s volunteer program at Izzy’s Corner, and other needed projects.
Keeping track of volunteer hours is a key part of the Volunteer Department’s function. Alex takes this on willingly and graciously. Alex helps enter the volunteer hours for over 15,000 volunteers who serve annually. This is no small feat. This type of work is very involved and requires a detail-oriented and highly-skilled individual like Alex. His consistent presence in the Volunteer Department allows him to build positive relationships with staff and other veteran volunteers who enjoy his company.
Alex also assists in the facilitation of our children’s volunteer program, Izzy’s Corner, which occurs twice a week. He helps greet the children and their parents, assists in sign-in and registration to ensure the children’s safety, and works alongside the children in their volunteer project. Izzy’s Corner is all about kids helping kids. It is a safe and fun place in our warehouse where kids ages 7-13 help pack nutritious food for our various food programs. With Alex’s involvement in Izzy’s Corner, he is helping shape the next generation of Second Harvest volunteers.
Alex is always willing to offer a helping hand in the daily needs of Second Harvest, whether helping volunteer groups at our Incredible Edible Farm, or unloading food donations. Alex’s enthusiasm for Second Harvest’s mission of ending hunger is truly inspiring for all who have the pleasure of working with him.
