Congrats to Dr. Patricia Adelekan for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Youth-on-the-Move Educational International/O.K. Kids
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: Dr. Pat Adelekan has always volunteered her services from the time she was a youth and helped Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. organize citizens from her hometown (Columbus, Ohio) to participate in the 1963 March on Washington- over 50 years ago. She is the founder of numerous international organizations for which she has volunteered thousands of hours creating, implementing and overseeing them: Youth-on-the-Move Education International (YOMEI) beginning in 1985; YOMI Academy; YOMI Radio Program; the YOMI International Educators Hall of Fame, 1992 ; she is a Distinguished Toastmaster twice-over (a global non-profit volunteer communication and leader organization) and has founded five Toastmaster Clubs in OC. She volunteers hundreds of hours every month as a senior advocate and member and newsletter editor of the Orange County Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council (SCAC); her volunteerism further spans the Anaheim Ebell Club; the OC branch of the NAACP; the National Council of Negro Women.; Crystal Cathedral, and Los Amigos of OC – to mention a few.
Indeed, Dr. Adelekan is one of the most compassionate, caring and giving volunteers I have ever met–and has been volunteering for over 60 years–in addition to being a mother, grandmother and retired educator. She deserves to be honored.
