Honoree 2014 – Helen Lynn

Congrats to Helen Lynn for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Lynn_HelenName:  Helen Lynn

Nominating Organization:  Council on Aging – Orange County

Honoree Category:  Human & Community

Why Nominated:  Helen Lynn has been a volunteer for the Council on Aging – Orange County for 6 years, helping both the SmileMakers Guild, and most recently the ANSWERS Resource Guide.

In 2008, Helen joined the SmileMakers Guild.  Helen worked a couple of shifts during the Holiday Project that first year and thankfully decided to stay.  Every year since then, she has worked almost every shift during the Holiday Project and expanded her role in the SmileMakers Guild. She has been the President of the SmileMakers Guild for the past 3 years and is the epitome of leadership, self-motivation, and true compassion. Helen also chairs the annual SmileMakers’ fundraising event, An Evening of Comedy. Under her leadership the event raised the most funds ever for the Holiday Project.

Helen is truly integral to the Holiday Project, through which we collect, wrap, and deliver over 3,300 gifts to seniors in long-term care facilities, most of whom have no family or friends.  Besides helping to recruit gift sponsors, picking up gifts, and supervising our wrapping volunteers, Helen sorts all of the incoming gifts that have been donated to make sure they get to the appropriate recipients.  She stepped in with ease and looked for things that needed to be done and did them.  Helen is truly dedicated to the SmileMakers’ cause.
As an essential part of the ANSWERS Guide, she vets all the non-profit contact information, which requires attention to detail and a large time commitment. Her countless hours working on the Guide lead many to think she is paid staff. They are amazed when hearing she is an enthusiastic and passionate volunteer.

Helen’s devotion and donation of time are remarkable and we are beyond grateful to work with her. This individual’s willingness to lend a helping hand, always going the extra mile and unwavering devotion to help seniors and the community make us proud to nominate our gem of the Council on Aging – Orange County, Helen Lynn for this award.

Please write a note of congratulations below!
