Congrats to Tony Swanson for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: As one of our newer volunteers, Tony is involved with the mission of Second Harvest Food Bank in a variety ways, each fulfilling a specific need. For example, for the last one and a half years, Tony has volunteered weekly in the food distribution center where he helps sort donated food and produce – all of which is distributed to more than 200,000 people who are served each month. Tony often takes on a leadership role, guiding new volunteer groups in their projects, which contributes to our efficiency, as well as to a positive volunteer experience.
Tony also frequently volunteers at our direct food distributions, called Mobile Pantries, at local churches and elementary schools, where he helps distribute at least 5,000 pounds of fresh fruit, vegetable, and staple items to those in need. In this capacity his positive and encouraging spirit directly connects with the children, families, and seniors benefiting from Second Harvest’s services to the community.
Tony also hosts our Nourishing Hope Tours which give people a firsthand look of the impact of our work in the community. As a host, Tony shares his passion and dedication to our mission of ending hunger in Orange County. He has inspired others to become Ambassadors for Second Harvest and become more involved with our work.
Through these various volunteer roles, Tony always exemplifies a positive attitude which is contagious to other volunteers, staff, and the people we serve.
