Congrats to Tricia Harrigan for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Share Our Selves
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: Tricia Harrigan’s 30-year association with Share Our Selves goes back to the 1980s, when she worked as a clothing room volunteer and part of the clean-up crew. From there, she went on to receive clients at the front desk: the first point of contact for those arriving at SOS and a welcoming presence to all those who needed care and assistance. Ultimately, she became a financial counselor, working with clients to get them emergency financial assistance such as rent or utility payments. Raised in Columbia, Tricia’s ability to speak Spanish, combined with a heart that embraces diversity, made her the perfect volunteer to care for the needs of our population. Tricia often volunteered twice a week and is an integral part of the SOS’s history. In addition to her hands-on volunteering, Tricia joined our Board of Directors in 2001 and became the representative for the Social Services program. Her ability to take copious notes led to her being voted in as secretary of the board. Tricia is well-read and has been an active member of the League of Women Voters for many years. She was married to her husband Bob for over 50 years, is the mother of four children, and is looking forward to moving up to Oakland in the near future to spend time with her family. Tricia has been a champion for the cause of poverty and a voice for those who struggle here in Orange County. It is an honor for Share Our Selves to nominate Tricia Harrigan for the Spirit of Volunteerism Award.
