Congrats to Bill Horwitz for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: I cannot think of a more deserving person for the Spirit of Volunteerism Awards of 2015 than my most dedicated volunteer nominee- Bill Horwitz.
I run the School Pantry Program here at Second Harvest-with 12 school site distributions each month, and Bill volunteers at the majority, if not all of the monthly School Pantry distributions!
Bill continually goes above and beyond the calling role of a School Pantry volunteer. He is always the first one to arrive at a distribution and the last one to leave. He has also taken it upon himself to provide each distribution with extra supplies -gloves, hand sanitizer, band aids etc., for myself and the other volunteers in attendance. Volunteering at a School Pantry can be physically demanding at times, and I have yet to hear Bill complain or show any signs of frustration- although he isn’t shy to jokingly state that “”we don’t pay him enough”” or “”he wants a raise””. His spirit is always a joy to have around; he shows compassion to our clients and fellow volunteer mates, and continually strives to make each distribution a successful one.
I want to honor Bill and give him a formal “”thank you!”” And provide him with the proper recognition he deserves for all of his wonderful volunteerism efforts. Our mission here at Second Harvest is to end hunger in Orange County and the values we share include compassion, integrity, stewardship and service excellence, and I believe Bill Horwitz embodies all of these values and more!
