Congrats to Jim Schmitt for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Ocean Institute
Honoree Category: Education
Why Nominated: Ocean Institute is pleased to honor Jim Schmitt as our Volunteer of the Year. Jim has been an Ocean Institute volunteer since 1997 and has dedicated over 5,500 hours of service to our organization. Jim’s outgoing personality has made him a perfect addition to our teams that interact with our guests, and through the years, he has volunteered in our Chambers Gallery gift shop, at our Information Booth, and in our Weekend Public Programs. Our Information Booth is the key communication hub for visitors, teachers, or just passersby. Jim is the quintessential “Johnny on the Spot”- before someone can ask “what is this place?” or “where do I check in?”, Jim has anticipated the question, and provided that person with the answer or found someone else to help. Jim loves people, and even more, the opportunity to enthusiastically educate them about the ocean and the Ocean Institute. In addition, Jim is the consummate team-player, and is always ready to help a fellow volunteer by lending a helping hand, or filling in a shift when someone is absent. Best yet, it’s always done with a smile and a chuckle. Jim makes everyone’s day better, just by being here! We are thrilled to honor Jim Schmitt as our Volunteer of the Year.
