Honoree 2015 – Linda Pimental

Congrats to Linda Pimental for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Name:  Linda Pimental

Nominating Organization:  HD CARE

Honoree Category:  Health

Why Nominated:  In 1996, one year prior to her late husband, Steven Oades, testing positive for HD, Linda became active with the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) and later became a Board Member on the Orange County Chapter of HDSA. In 2012, Linda became one of the founding Board Members for UCI HD CARE with a commitment to advance Huntington’s Disease research and clinical care at UC Irvine.

In 2014, Linda partnered with the OC Marathon to secure HD CARE as one of the benefitting charities. She then spent months recruiting runners to represent HD CARE and to run the marathon on their behalf. She ended up with over 90 runners. She hosted educational dinners and bbq’s to help runners understand the disease and the importance of their fundraising. She garnered incentives to keep the runners inspired towards achieving their goals and organized a booth for the runners after the event with massage therapists, food, incentives. Because of her tired-less efforts over $25,000 was raised to advance research at UC Irvine to find a cure for Huntington’s Disease.

Linda has organized and motivated the UCI MIND team for the last four years of participation in the OC Marathon. Additionally, HD-CARE Board members, running team members and dedicated volunteers worked behind-the-scenes in making this event a success. Thank you Linda for your continued dedication!

Please write a note of congratulations below!
