Congrats to Valerie Lewis for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Second Harvest Food Bank of OC
Honoree Category: Human and Community
Why Nominated: “Volunteerism takes many shapes, but is always fueled by the desire to make a difference. At Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, we see thousands of volunteers. They’re dedicated, enthusiastic, generous people who donate their time and efforts to help feed people in Orange County. Occasionally a volunteer will stand out amongst the crowd; they bring a contagious positive energy, an incredible work ethic, and inspire those around them to make a difference. Valerie Lewis is one such individual. Valerie has volunteered as an individual since 2008, and in the past year alone has donated nearly 100 hours of her time to Second Harvest. She has coordinated, motivated, and educated many, many people about volunteering with us, and about the serious challenges that many face in getting enough food to eat – even in Orange County.
Valerie has consistently offered her assistance with a wide variety of tasks, from handing out food to families at schools in underserved communities, to covering our reception desk, researching nutrition information for educational material for our clients, and assisting with data entry. Perhaps the area where Valerie has had the greatest impact is by recruiting and motivating teams of volunteers through her company, Bank of America. Since 2012, Valerie has rallied and coordinated over 400 Bank of America volunteers to contribute nearly 1,100 volunteer hours at various Second Harvest events and activities. Valerie has, without fail, brought an amazingly positive, energetic and helpful attitude every single time she has volunteered. She is an inspiration, and an amazing boon to Second Harvest.
We always look forward to seeing Valerie, and sincerely hope that she continues to volunteer for many years to come.”
