Congrats to Barbara McMillan for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: South County Outreach
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: Barbara has been volunteering as a client-care worker for two years, working two days a week. She helps families and individuals in need as they come in for assistance through the food pantry, for homeless prevention services and our holiday programs. Her focus is on helping people in crisis connect with the right services to get them back on their feet.
Her compassion is one of the many qualities that make Barbara a great care worker. She is incredibly patient and compassionate and works very hard to assist clients in connecting with services. She takes great pride in her work and is always looking for new projects to engage in. Barbara, who has lived in Mission Viejo for the past 20 years, is one of the 40 front-desk volunteers and 200 other weekly volunteers who keep South County Outreach running. The work can be challenging because the care workers need to establish relationships with the clients, asking the right questions to connect them to the appropriate services. Barbara first came to South County Outreach when she found herself in need of upgraded computer skills during a job search. She took the suite of Microsoft Office classes. Later, she switched to working part time and she thought of South County Outreach as a place to volunteer. Now she devotes more time to volunteering. We are honored to have Barbara as part of the South County Outreach Volunteer Team!
