Congrats to Carlos Prietto for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: AccessOC, Southern California
Honoree Category: Health
Why Nominated: Dr. Carlos Prietto was a new addition to our team in 2014, but in his time with us he has made a major difference in our patients’ lives. For one of our patients, the lack of volunteer orthopedic surgeons had meant her rotator cuff injury had gone untreated for several years. When Dr. Prietto picked up her case, she finally had a glimmer of hope to hang onto. However, in a cruel twist of fate she discovered she would not be able to afford the post-operative physical therapy- which was required for her surgery. Some of our patients have the option of receiving physical therapy through their community clinic, but by great misfortune this patient’s clinic did not have that capability. For Dr. Prietto, this was an injustice too great to let be. As a result of his compassion and tenacity he managed to have the several weeks of physical therapy donated to our patient by Hoag. After two long years, our patient was finally pain free.
Dr. Prietto has donated his time and expertise to several more patients, with equally compelling stories, since he started partnering with AccessOC. We are so lucky to have caring physicians like Dr. Prietto, and we are honored to nominate him for the 2015 Spirit of Volunteerism Award!
