Congrats to Cheryl Tonic for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Huntington Beach Police Department
Honoree Category: Law Enforcement
Why Nominated: Cheryl Tonic deserves to be honored for many reasons, but I will let you know what her peers have said about her first.
Cheryl is being nominated because she is a person that truly goes above and beyond to keep the program running smoothly. She is always ready and willing to put others’ needs on the job before hers, she is willing to take on additional duties others decline and pitches in without being asked. She not only arrives early on, Newsletter Assembly Days, to set up, but stays until all the work is completed. In addition Cheryl volunteers to assist at various other community events whenever needed and assists with the planning and organization such as National Night Out, Holiday Volunteer Luncheon, etc.
She encourages others who feel they can’t get the job done on time, and shows them when everyone is working together we can accomplish anything. She takes stock of what the volunteers need to finish the newsletters and delivers. She knows how to guide and lead people with enthusiasm and encouragement, she is truly a gentle force. She is a great asset to our leader and knows how to step in and take charge when necessary without being asked. Cheryl is amazing as she continues to promote “good will” in everything she does. She is a dedicated volunteer, motivating others and always asking other people in the community to join us. She is considered an outstanding hard working person, kind, friendly, and does everything with a warm smile.
The HB Neighborhood Watch Newsletter Assembly group consist of approximately 20 to 35 people that meet monthly to collate and prepare for mailing approximately 11,500 newsletters in a 5 hour period. Cheryl calls approximately 50 people each month to remind them to assist with the newsletter assembly; she always arrives at 7:00 a.m. to arrange the furniture, set out the newsletters and other supplies so when people arrive they can begin working; she greets everyone as they arrive and partners new people with a buddy that can tell them what needs to be done (sort of a trainer). She is one of the most dedicated, trustworthy, loyal, and caring people you will ever know.
These are just a few of the reasons Cheryl Tonic was selected as the Spirit Volunteer of the Year. The Huntington Beach Police Department is proud to have her as a member of our organization. HBPD and the community thank her for her service.
