Honoree 2015 – Diane Etchison

Congrats to Diane Etchison for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Name:  Diane Etchison

Nominating Organization:  Irvine Ranch Conservancy

Honoree Category:  Animals & Environment

Why Nominated:  Diane Etchison has devoted over 600 hours-to-date since becoming a volunteer to support citizen science and interpretive programs and, as such, has become one of Irvine Ranch Conservancy’s most valued and dependable contributors to programs associated with natural history. Her expertise in bird and plant identification, that she so willingly shares, has raised the caliber of virtually every program with which she is involved and has inspired countless participants. Diane is a regular and reliable contributor both at monthly butterfly counts as well as to a newly-initiated seasonal bird monitoring program in the Limestone Wilderness Area. She also participates regularly in a variety of other interpretive programs and in all programs is equally capable as lead or support – always contributing her contagious enthusiasm and rigor for understanding nature. In her “off hours” at home, Diane enters and maintains for the Conservancy an updated list of the hundreds of flowering plants encountered on monthly butterfly counts; that is shared regularly with participants and invaluable to staff. Her skill and leadership have also been instrumental in starting and maintaining a bird monitoring program designed to track changes in bird populations over time. Lastly, Diane has worked closely with Conservancy staff to develop training material for a popular birding class for volunteers. Her quiet nature understates the enormous contributions that she has made to the greater appreciation and excellent stewardship of our natural lands.

Please write a note of congratulations below!
