Honoree 2015 – Jana Chavez

Congrats to Jana Chavez for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Name:  Jana Chavez

Nominating Organization:  American Red Cross

Honoree Category:  Human & Community

Why Nominated:  Jana Chavez has been a tremendous support to our disaster clients and volunteer nurses. In her role as Disaster Health Service Lead she has worked to insure that families displaced from their homes due to a fire and or other disasters were quickly assisted in replacing their medications and/or medical equipment. During a recent event Jana led an Integrated Care Team comprised of a mental health professional and casework to support a family who suffered a fatality as a result of a fire, through her efforts and coordination the Red Cross ensured that the family had the support and resources needed during this most difficult time.

In addition to her commitment to assisting our disaster clients, Jana has taken great strides to insure that the Health Services group is ready to respond. She has taken the time to recruit, train and mentor new nurses. She worked closely with our Logistic groups in identifying and stocking Health Services Kits that can be transported to shelters after a disaster to support shelter residents. Jana is always eager to participate in training, exercises and other activities that will help her and her fellow nurses become better prepared to respond to disasters
