Honoree 2015 – Jay Matchett

Congrats to Jay Matchett for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Name:  Jay Matchett

Nominating Organization:  Irvine Ranch Conservancy

Honoree Category:  Animals & Environment

Why Nominated:  Jay is a consistent force supporting the weekly fitness hikes on the ever popular Hicks Haul Road. Starting as a public participant, he was recruited in 2013 by fellow volunteers to help share the land with others. Now, Jay can be found assisting or even leading the Slow-Paced Fitness Hike, which serves as a gateway to introduce new participants to the beauty of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. When not building up a sweat along the “HHR,” Jay can be spotted under the full moon’s glow on night walks in Orchard Hills, sharing tales on family strolls through Round Canyon, and pointing out wildlife in Fremont Canyon. His local plant knowledge and native bird expertise lends his volunteer services to a plethora of programs. His calm demeanor and eagerness to share the land with others helps people connect more readily to the land. Jay’s green thumb is greatly appreciated during steward events such as trail planting along the highly sensitive Dripping Springs trail. His assistance with planting natives and watering seedlings has helped to restore trails for future generations to enjoy. Irvine Ranch Conservancy greatly appreciates all of Jay’s dedication, hard work, and passion for helping people connect to the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks!

Please write a note of congratulations below!
