Honoree 2015 – Rick Gaskins

Congrats to Rick Gaskins for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!

Name:  Rick Gaskins

Nominating Organization:  Irvine Ranch Conservancy

Honoree Category:  Animals & Environment

Why Nominated:  Ready to assist the Conservancy in many ways, Rick Gaskins is a Land Steward, Trail Guide, and a very active Fire Watch volunteer. Rick began volunteering with Irvine Ranch Conservancy in 2013 and has currently contributed nearly 250 hours. Active in the stewardship of the land, his care has led to many problem-solving innovations for staff and visitors alike. While planting cactus pads used by the Conservancy to close social trails, he came up with an excellent idea to use food tongs as planting aid devices. This has allowed more participants with varied skill levels to join cactus planting stewardships. Jovially engaging participants at a variety of community events, Rick is an ambassador for the Conservancy. He is excellent at engaging the public one-on-one about the land and the work the Conservancy does. Rick has been instrumental in the promotion and expansion of the Orange County Fire Watch program. Rick deploys on many high fire-danger days, and assists with community outreach by educating the public on reducing fire on the land.
