Congrats to Peggy Demicell for being honored as an outstanding community volunteer!
Nominating Organization: Macy’s
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: At Macy’s we look to Give Back where and when we can to the community. We also look to celebrate those that go above and beyond in the spirit of Giving. Below is a letter I recently received regarding Peggy Demicell who is the Receiving Team Manager of the Macy’s Newport Fashion Island store.
I’m compelled to write this story about Peggy Demicell, the Receiving Team Manager, because of how she gives back to the community. After working a fast paced November and December Holiday season I ran into Peggy as I was coming into work the day after Christmas. When I asked Peggy how her Christmas was, I was expecting to hear that she had a nice quiet day off visiting with her family and close friends. I was surprised when Peggy nonchalantly replied, “Not much.” I responded, “Well, it must have been a nice day for you and your husband to relax and just enjoy the holiday together.” Peggy then explained that for more than 15 years she and her husband both donate food and help serve the homeless in Orange County warm meals on Christmas day. She then told me that she and her husband have been doing this and giving back to the community for years and it always makes their holiday more meaningful. It takes a lot of character for someone to graciously give up their Christmas (and only real day off during the crazy holiday season), and give their time to strangers. I have worked with Peggy for four years and had just found this out about her, proving that Peggy truly gives from her heart, with nothing but humility, and the desire to “do what’s right.” We see Peggy demonstrate her generosity and heart in everything she does at Macy’s Newport, and this is just one more example of Peggy going the extra mile for others.
Please write a note of congratulations below!
