Congrats to Gay For Good Orange County for being honored as an outstanding team of volunteers!
Team Name: Gay For Good Orange County
Team Members: Mike Fuhr, Kevin Shuler, Jon Ruelle, and Emmanuel Cayanan
Nominating Organization: CAPOC’s OC Food Bank
Honoree Category: Human & Community
Why Nominated: The Orange County Chapter of Gay For Good is one of those few groups all non-profit volunteer managers dream of when it comes to using volunteers to complete a project. They arrive with an upbeat fun energy, take on any task thrown their way-and with strong leadership managing their army of volunteers, they consistently complete a project in record time and with better than expected results. It’s amazing to watch how much fun they have socializing during the project while focusing on completing the work at hand. There’s a lot a talking, but even more doing!
We started working with Gay For Good when they contacted us in 2010. Over the past five years they have volunteered with us each year, sometimes twice a year, breaking records on the number of supplemental food boxes they are able to assemble in a shift. There’s something special about the groups energy and friendliness. Many times Gay For Good has had to fill in shifts where other groups have fallen short of enough volunteers. Watching them meet these other volunteer groups and quickly welcome them into their group is truly a testament to one of their main organizational missions of community “bridge-building”. For many volunteers meeting or working side-by-side with someone who is wearing a name tag that identifies them as gay or lesbian may be a new experience. We’ve seen some groups quickly meld into one team all working toward a common goal of doing good for their community and realizing that diversity builds the strength of the team.
We look forward to continuing to build a strong and long lasting partnership with Gay For Good.
We are so happy to nominate the group for a Spirit of Volunteerism Award.
